Cabrillo National Monument
The Cabrillo National Monument is the most visited national monument in the United States. The monument commemorates Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, the Spanish explorer who discovered the West Coast in 1542. In addition to telling the story of his exploration, the park is home to a wealth of cultural and natural resources. There are ocean-view nature trails & historic exhibits to explore. Tide pools & whale sightings are available seasonally. Open 365 days a year, including all weekends and holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Approximate driving time: 15 minutes
Located just north of downtown, Balboa Park is the nation's second largest park. The park is home to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, 15 of San Diego's famous museums, renowned performing arts venues and beautiful gardens.
Admittance to the park grounds is free. The Botanical Building, outdoor gardens and some additional attractions are also offered free of charge. The Passport to Balboa Park offers visitors the chance to experience 13 museums in the park with savings of more than 50% and the convenience of a one-time purchase. The Passport is valid for seven days. The Zoo/Passport Combo includes the Passport to Balboa Park plus one-day deluxe admission at the San Diego Zoo. Approximate driving time: 15 minutes
Live the adventure aboard the longest-serving aircraft carrier in U.S. Navy history -- a 47 year odyssey that spanned the end of WWII and Desert Storm. This historic attraction is located downtown at Navy Pier. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except Thanksgiving & Christmas Day) Ticket booth closes at 4:00 p.m.
